For the 2016 bottling Tatsuya really struggled to find a cask. In November 2016 he finally travelled to Glasgow to visit Douglas Laing and met with his good friend, Chris Leggat – who so happens also to be the commercial director for Douglas Laing. Together they tasted many samples until Tatsuya found one which he really liked.

He chose Cask Number DL11532 which was distilled at Benrinnes distillery on the 16th August 1997. It was bottled on the 19th December 2016 at its’ natural cask strength of 57.9% acl/vol.

Hans Dillesse, a well known artist in the Netherlanders and serious whisky enthusiast, was asked by Tatsuya to design the front label for the 2015 bottling of Longmorn. Last year he did such a fantastic that Tatsuya decided to use him again.

This year’s label is looking at the Highlander Inn from the same angle but this time it is at night. The idea behind this was to represent how the Highlander Inn would look if you came to visit on a cold December night for a whisky to warm you up.

Gavin D Smith, is a very respected whisky writer in the industry and a friend of the Highlander Inn. When Tatsuya asked Gavin to write the tasting notes for the new Highlander Inn Benrinnes bottle he replied that he would be delighted to and we are so glad that you did.

The notes are excellent and we agreed with everything that you wrote. Well done Gavin!
